Laura Mulvey's Ideas On Representation

Laura Mulvey, suggest's: "In a world ordered by sexual imbalance, pleasure in looking has been split between active/male and passive/female. The determining male gaze projects its fantasy onto the female figure which is styled accordingly"


In other words, she's saying that women are seen as objects to men in society. Furthermore, this can be related to music videos, because men use women as eye-candy to enhance their song/appeal to the male gaze. For example, in Candy Paint, a song about cars women are used directly flaunting their female attributes in front of the camera whilst the artist is singing in the background which is related to the song what so ever:
